Diabetic Diet: The Truth About Artificial Sweeteners

My Diabetic friends please don’t buy into the notion that artificial sweeteners are a safe alternative to sugar. They are dangerous chemicals and have serious effects on the body, especially aspartame. Aspartame is an excitotoxin and has been linked to brain tumors. Please get all sugar free sweeteners, sodas, yogurts and gum out of your diet. Next time you chew on gum think brain tumor. That will help you kick the habit.

You need to get used to reading labels and scanning for HFCS, Fructose, Glucose, Sucralose and artificial sweeteners. This is imperative to your long-term health.

My favorite alternative is stevia, a naturally sweet tasting plant. It is an acquired taste at first but you will get used to it and eventually really enjoy it. Please be aware that some companies cut corners and add fake sweeteners, like dextrin or maltodextrin, to enhance the flavor. I like the company SweetLeaf. They have one serving sized powdered packets and a variety of liquid flavors. Chocolate, coconut, and plain are my go to’s! Share with me your experience and any alternatives you enjoy!
