The main concern with consuming animal protein is that it breaks down into acid forming minerals in the body. This results in your body needing to pull alkaline minerals, from your bones and tissues neutralizes the acid and then flushes it out of your system via the kidney. The most commonly leached mineral is calcium from your bones. Over the years your bones degenerate and you end up with osteoporosis, needless injuries, and/or kidney stones. Another effect of an acidic diet is cancer. Cancer can only thrive in an acidic body.

Here is a chart showing the range between Alkaline to Acid forming foods.

Ideally, you steer clear of acid-forming foods. Remember that foods are either acid or alkaline forming based on which minerals they break down to within the body. An acid-fruit such as a lemon metabolizes into alkaline minerals so its not actually acidic once it’s in the body. As you can see on the top half of this chart, all fruits and veg are alkaline-forming. Again, they metabolize to alkaline minerals. Scan down the rest of this list. You want to limit or steer clear of these items. Check out the worst offenders pasta, cheese and Soda. Who would have thought pasta is acidic? You guys following? Really important to understand this concept.

Symptoms of Acidosis
– Sunken eyes
– Bad breath
– Water retention
– Foul-smelling stool
– Rheumatoid arthritis
– Constipation & diarrhea
– Excessively low blood pressure
– Depression
– Bipolar disorder
– Multiple sclerosis
– Parkinson’s disease
Lastly a few ways to recognize acidosis are sunken eyes, bad breath, water retention, and foul-smelling poop. This is a really interesting side effect of switching my diet that I wasn’t expecting. After about a week I noticed that nothing coming out of me smelled. Not from any pour or hole. Sorry to be graphic but I literally stopped needing deodorant or bathroom spray. Was really cool. Other symptoms on the bottom there… depression, bipolar, MS, and Parkinson’s… change your diet and these diseases will subside and even disappear.
